Taking Audrey to Work

I think I've created a monster.

Yesterday was Take Your Child to Work day. And since Audrey only had a half-day of school scheduled, it seemed like a good idea to bring her along with me.

For the first part of the day, my company kept all of the kids engaged with Slide Shows of Power Plants and games like "Are You Smarter Than an Engineer?" I was worried that Audrey might be bored but she loved it all.

We all ate lunch together on the lawn out back (grilled dogs and burgers) and then the rest of the afternoon the kids were supposed to job shadow their parents.

That was all well and good but I had real work to do. And it was insanely boring.

Audrey started to take a nap on the floor of my office while playing with her DS. After a short while, she jumped up and said, "I need to walk around a bit and DO something." So, she was off. And before I knew it, she met up with some of her cohorts from the morning and they were all playing "office." Audrey found her own cubicle and set it up to do some real work.

Here's her office and the cubicle she became so fond of.

She told me she learned things about electricity and the over-use of coal. She also said she needs to come to my work at least once a week.

And my favorite comment?

"I need to talk to your boss about getting a laptop for me."
